The Team
Hello My name is Felix Gonzalez captain of the Solarx Solar Car Team. My team is very dedicated to building this solar car, We worked many hours a day designing our car. Now its time to build!
How the car works
The main component of a solar car is its solar array, which collect the energy from the sun and converts it into usable electrical energy. The solar cells collect a portion of the sun's energy and stores it into the batteries of the solar car. Before that happens, power trackers converts the energy collected from the solar array to the proper system voltage, so that the batteries and the motor can use it. After the energy is stored in the batteries, it is available for use by the motor & motor controller to drive the car. The motor controller adjusts the amount of energy that flows to the motor to correspond to the throttle. The motor uses that energy to drive the wheels. on the power of the sun.
One of the exciting races and Our Teams first Sponsor : Dell - Winston Solar Challenge
In 1993, the Winston Solar Car Team launched an education program to provide curriculum materials, on-site visits, and workshop opportunities for high schools across the country. This effort was designed to motivate students in the sciences, and to stress the value of alternative energy. The end product of each two-year education cycle is the Dell-Winston Solar Challenge, a closed-track or cross-country race designed to give students an opportunity to display their work. The first such Challenge in 1995 attracted ninety schools leading to nine schools actually building cars for the 1995 race. Three cars qualified to run. The 1997 Challenge grew to over three hundred fifty schools in five countries leading to twenty-two schools building cars for the race. Eight of these cars qualified to run the 1997 race, a 600-mile cross-country event from Dallas to San Antonio.
The Dell-Winston Solar Challenge now hosts annual events based on the addition of resources from the Texas Motor Speedway. Even-numbered year events will be closed track races at the Speedway; odd-numbered year events will continue to be cross-country races. The 1999 race is a 1600-mile event from Dallas to Los Angeles. Students from over 750 schools shared this monumental event; nine teams qualified. The 2001 race traces its race course from Austin, Texas to the outskirts of Indianapolis, Indiana.
